Urgent Search for Hit-and-Run Driver After Child Struck in Airdrie
BREAKING: A 6-year-old child has been struck in a hit-and-run incident in Airdrie, and authorities are urgently searching for the driver responsible. The collision occurred on Cobblestone Boulevard at 5:43 p.m. on Thursday, prompting immediate action from the Airdrie RCMP.
According to police reports, the child was playing outside, shoveling snow with her mother and another child when a gold-colored Acura SUV lost control, veering onto the sidewalk and striking the young girl. After the impact, the SUV struck a tree before the driver fled the scene, heading southbound on Cobblestone Boulevard.
Fortunately, the child sustained only minor injuries, but this incident has raised alarm in the community. Witnesses describe the driver as a female aged between 16 and 20 years, with medium-colored skin and wearing a white toque. A male passenger, estimated to be between 16 and 18 years old, was also present in the vehicle.
The Airdrie RCMP have since recovered the abandoned SUV, but the search for the suspects continues. Authorities are urging anyone with information about this incident or the identities of the individuals involved to come forward.
“We need the community’s help in identifying these individuals,” said an RCMP spokesperson. “Every tip can be crucial in bringing this case to a resolution.”
Residents are encouraged to contact the Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7267 with any information. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.P3Tips.com, or through the P3 Tips mobile app.
As the investigation continues, community members are reminded to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity. This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of safety for children in residential areas, particularly during winter months.
Authorities emphasize the urgency of this matter and are committed to ensuring justice for the affected family. Updates will follow as new information becomes available.
