Urgent Search for Missing Man on Burke Mountain, Coquitlam

URGENT UPDATE: A frantic search is underway for 65-year-old To Sang Alfred Wong, who is missing on Burke Mountain in Coquitlam, B.C.. Authorities confirm that Wong was last seen in his grey Chevrolet Cruz near his home on Tuesday. His vehicle was discovered at the trailhead of the Coquitlam Lake Trail on Wednesday, intensifying concerns for his safety.

Coquitlam RCMP urgently requests the public’s help in locating Wong, who is described as an Asian man, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall, with a slim build and balding grey hair. Search efforts began after officials received a call around 2 p.m. PT on Wednesday, with dedicated teams scouring the mountain until late at night. Search manager Al Hurley stated, “We were back here at 5 a.m. this morning,” underscoring the urgency of the situation.

Wong’s family believes he may have intended to hike to “the Lookout” on Burke Mountain. Hurley warned that the weather conditions worsened significantly overnight, with heavy rain potentially disorienting Wong as he navigated the mountain’s complex network of trails. “It was a beautiful day when Wong started his walk, but that night it started to rain heavily,” he noted.

Rescuers have deployed a tracker dog and utilized specialized equipment from North Shore SAR to detect cell signals, but poor weather has hindered aerial search efforts. Hurley expressed hope that Wong might be “hunkered down, and staying warm and dry,” and encourages anyone who has heard or seen anything to assist in the search.
