Urgent: Shooting in Surrey’s Newton Area Investigated by Police
UPDATE: An early-morning shooting in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood is under urgent investigation by the Surrey Police Service (SPS). Reports indicate that gunfire erupted just before 1 a.m. on October 19, 2023, near the intersection of King George Boulevard and 81 Avenue.
Authorities confirm that the shooting is likely unrelated to the ongoing extortion incidents plaguing the city. Upon arrival, police found a business damaged by gunshots. Initial investigations reveal that a suspect fired at individuals inside a vehicle parked in front of the business before fleeing the scene.
The SPS Frontline Investigative Support Team (FLIST) is leading the investigation. Although the motive remains unclear, officials stress there are no known connections to the city’s extortion investigations.
Witnesses describe the suspect vehicle as a white, newer model four-door sedan, which has not yet been located. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting, including possible dashcam or CCTV footage, to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 25-91820 (SP). Alternatively, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via solvecrime.ca.
