UPDATE: A severe snowfall warning has just been issued for the Waterloo Region, Guelph, and Wellington County, with forecasts predicting up to 20 cm of snow overnight. Environment Canada has confirmed that snow will begin accumulating starting Tuesday evening and continue into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

This weather system, known as an Alberta clipper, is expected to blanket the area, creating hazardous conditions for travel and significantly reducing visibility. The agency warns that heavy snowfall may cause dangerous road conditions, urging residents to prepare for challenging travel situations.

As the snow begins to fall, conditions are expected to worsen throughout the night. “Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” stated Environment Canada. Heavy snow is anticipated to transition to showers or flurries as the day progresses on Wednesday, with temperatures peaking at 1°C.

Residents of Kitchener have already experienced snowfall starting late Tuesday morning, contributing to the urgency of this warning. With a high of only –1°C on Tuesday, the cold conditions will further complicate travel and outdoor activities.

The situation is set to evolve, with forecast models indicating that snowsqualls will continue into Thursday, and flurries are expected to persist throughout the weekend.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and to take necessary precautions if they must travel. Make sure to keep your shovels ready as we brace for another round of winter weather.
