Urgent Traffic Changes on Victoria Avenue Begin September 15
UPDATE: Major traffic changes are set to take effect on Victoria Avenue starting Monday, September 15, 2025, due to ongoing reconstruction of the Victoria Avenue Sanitary Sewer Trunk. The city is urging all drivers to prepare for significant adjustments in traffic flow as the project enters a critical phase.
As construction progresses, traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction. Notably, motorists will now be required to utilize the two easternmost lanes. Authorities are advising all drivers to slow down and adhere to signage in the construction zone to ensure the safety of both road users and the workers on site.
The City of Cranbrook is asking drivers to avoid the area whenever possible to help alleviate traffic congestion. This effort aims to facilitate smoother passage for emergency vehicles and maintain a safe environment for construction crews.
In addition, the intersection of Victoria Avenue and 2nd Street North is currently operating as a temporary four-way stop. This signal change is expected to revert soon as the project advances.
The reconstruction, managed by Copcan Civil LP, involves replacing the sanitary sewer trunk main between 2nd Street North and 6th Street North to tackle existing capacity issues. The project also includes significant upgrades to water mains and full-width paving along this section of Victoria Avenue.
This critical infrastructure upgrade is anticipated to conclude by late October 2025. The City of Cranbrook acknowledges the financial support from the Canada Community Building Fund, which plays a vital role in funding such essential projects.
Residents and commuters are encouraged to stay informed about the developments and monitor local traffic updates. With the changes coming into effect soon, it’s essential to plan your route accordingly.
