Urgent: Two Youth Tragically Drown in Dryden’s Wabigoon River
UPDATE: A tragic incident unfolded in Dryden, Ontario, as two youth drowned in the Wabigoon River on July 20, 2023. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed that a 15-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl entered the river but failed to resurface, prompting an urgent response from emergency services.
Authorities reported that the youth were last seen in the water around 4:00 PM local time. Emergency personnel from the OPP, Dryden Fire Service, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) quickly arrived on the scene to conduct a search and rescue operation. Tragically, emergency responders retrieved the youth but both were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The OPP is actively investigating this devastating incident, and while they have not released the names of the victims to protect their families’ privacy, they emphasized the importance of community support. “The OPP would like to thank members of the public who provided assistance during this tragic event,” stated a spokesperson in a media release.
