Urgent Update: 1 Dead, 4 Injured in Head-On Crash on Hwy. 48

UPDATE: A tragic head-on collision on Hwy. 48 has resulted in 1 death and 4 injuries, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 p.m. on October 29, 2023, near Aurora Road in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.
Authorities have confirmed that both directions of Hwy. 48 are currently closed between St. John Sideroad and Ballantrae Common as police conduct their investigation. York Region Paramedics responded quickly, dispatching four ambulances, two special response units, and additional supervisory units to the scene.
At the site of the collision, five individuals were assessed by emergency responders, and four were transported to a local trauma center. Paramedics have not disclosed the conditions of the injured or provided further details about the deceased.
This incident is still under investigation, and OPP is urging anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the crash to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
