Urgent Update: 27-Year-Old Arrested in Fatal Port Colborne Incident
UPDATE: A 27-year-old man has been arrested following a deadly weapons incident in Port Colborne, Ontario, that left one person deceased. The Niagara Regional Police confirmed the arrest of Brady Neff on the afternoon of October 25, 2023, after a tense and extensive manhunt.
The situation unfolded early Wednesday morning when police responded to reports of a possible weapons threat at a residence on Fares Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased man inside the home. He was later identified as Brady Neff.
Authorities launched an urgent search for Neff after Hamilton Police issued a warning just after noon, stating he was armed and dangerous, urging local residents to stay indoors. Several schools in the vicinity were placed on lockdown as police surrounded two homes in a desperate search for the suspect.
Video footage shared on social media captured the chaotic scene, with officers calling for Neff to surrender. Despite their efforts, he was not located at either of the targeted addresses.
Later in the afternoon, officers tracked Neff to the west side of the Welland Canal, near the intersection of Killaly Street East and Welland Street, where he was finally apprehended around 3 p.m.. Authorities confirmed that Neff is now in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing on Thursday at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is actively seeking further information from the public. Neff’s previous criminal history has been confirmed by officials, raising concerns about public safety in the community.
