URGENT UPDATE: A 32-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie faces serious charges after being found asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle early on March 6, 2023. Police responded to a complaint around 1 a.m. on Black Road, where officers discovered the driver in a concerning state.

Upon waking the driver, authorities developed reasonable grounds to believe he was impaired by drugs and/or alcohol. Initial breath tests showed no alcohol presence, but a search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and led to a roadside sobriety test, which the driver failed.

Police subsequently found 5.49 grams of cocaine and 1.71 grams of fentanyl in the vehicle, escalating the severity of the situation. Officers have charged the accused with drugged driving, possession of illegal substances, and driving without a valid license.

The man was released on an appearance notice and is set to appear in court on April 20, 2023, to face these serious allegations. The incident raises critical concerns about impaired driving and the ongoing drug crisis affecting communities.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any signs of impaired driving to keep roads safer for everyone. As details continue to emerge, this case highlights the pressing need for awareness around drug use and driving safety.
