Vernon Golf Pros Complete 162 Holes, Raise $5K for ALS NOW
UPDATE: Three dedicated golf professionals from Vernon Golf and Country Club have just completed an impressive 162 holes in a single day, raising over $5,145 for the ALS Society of BC during the 20th annual PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS on July 3, 2023. This extraordinary event underscores the community’s commitment to supporting those affected by ALS.
Golf operations manager Bradlee Jones, head golf professional Brooks Jones, and teaching professional Myles Johnson each played 54 holes, starting their marathon at 4:45 a.m. under clear skies and comfortable temperatures of 24°C. Their efforts were highlighted by an astonishing total of 26 birdies throughout the day, showcasing their skills and dedication.
“We are incredibly grateful to our membership at the VGCC for their generous donations to support this cause,” said Bradlee Jones, emphasizing the vital role of community involvement in the fight against ALS. This year marks the third consecutive year that Vernon Golf and Country Club has participated in the Golfathon, contributing to an impressive total of over $16,000 raised to date.
Since its inception, the Golfathon for ALS has raised more than $3 million, which directly benefits registered patient programs and services, including essential psychological support and the Camp Alohi Lani summer camp for children affected by ALS. Donald Miyazaki, executive director of ALS BC, stated, “Vernon is an important community for many patients and families affected by ALS. The commitment shown by Myles, Brad, and Brooks is significant and speaks volumes about their desire to give back.”
The Golfathon is presented by the not-for-profit Pacific Blue Cross Foundation, with deep appreciation expressed to the PGA of BC for making this event a cornerstone fundraising initiative for two decades. The Vernon Golf and Country Club also received thanks for its staff, members, volunteers, and donors who made this year’s event a resounding success.
Though the Vernon event has concluded, the opportunity to contribute remains open. Donations are still being accepted online until the end of the year, with over $182,000 raised towards the ambitious $250,000 goal for this year’s campaign, which features more than 30 events across various B.C. golf courses.
This urgent initiative continues to resonate deeply with those impacted by ALS, making it a critical moment for community action and support. Join the effort and help make a difference for patients and families facing this devastating disease. Every contribution counts, and the time to act is NOW.
