Vernon Golf Tournament Raises $30K for Violence Survivors

BREAKING: The inaugural Archway Open Golf Tournament at Vernon Golf & Country Club has successfully raised $30,000 for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The event, held on September 6, attracted 116 golfers for a day filled with friendly competition and community support.

This urgent fundraising effort directly benefits the Archway Society for Domestic Peace, empowering survivors and their families. “It was an amazing day of golf, community building, and fun,” stated Stacey Donison, a key volunteer and committee member. The overwhelming support from sponsors and the community made this event possible.

Participants engaged in a variety of on-course challenges, including marshmallow chipping and oven mitt contests, while LPGA pro AJ Eathorne added excitement by joining teams on the course. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and camaraderie, as golfers rallied for a crucial cause.

Jody Swartz, another event organizer, expressed the significance of the day: “Seeing everyone come together on the course, laughing, cheering, and supporting such an important cause, was truly inspiring.” The funds raised will provide essential services such as safety at Archway’s Transition House, counselling for adults and children, and advocacy support through court proceedings.

Sherry Demetrick, co-executive director of the Archway Society, emphasized the collective impact: “Today was a celebration of community, generosity, and hope. Last year, over 1,600 people benefited from our programs, and events like the Archway Open ensure that survivors can access the support they need.”

The support provided through the tournament plays a pivotal role in helping survivors rebuild their lives. Proceeds will facilitate various services, including access to comfort from accredited facility support dogs and comprehensive wrap-around services aimed at helping families thrive.

As excitement builds for next year’s tournament, organizers and participants alike are already looking forward to another round of community support. “We can’t wait to see everyone back on the course next year for another day of fun, community, and support for survivors,” Donison added.
