Villa Park Man Arrested for Threatening Elmhurst Resident with Gun
UPDATE: A Villa Park man is in custody following a shocking incident where he threatened an Elmhurst resident with a loaded pistol outside the victim’s home. The alarming confrontation occurred around 7:30 PM on October 20, 2023, on the 600 block of Armitage Road.
Prosecutors report that Devontae Allmon, 29, was found crouched next to the victim’s vehicle when the homeowner approached him. In a terrifying turn of events, Allmon brandished a semiautomatic handgun, chambered a round, and threatened the resident before fleeing the scene. The victim promptly called 911, prompting a swift response from Elmhurst police.
Authorities quickly located Allmon about a block away, but he initially ignored commands to stop and attempted to evade arrest. However, he was apprehended after briefly fleeing, during which he discarded a loaded .40-caliber handgun. Notably, Allmon was wearing a ballistic vest at the time of his arrest, raising further concerns among law enforcement.
During the investigation, officers discovered that Allmon had also committed a burglary on the 600 block of Babcock Avenue shortly before the encounter. He attempted to gain access to other vehicles in the area that night as well, indicating a pattern of criminal behavior.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin characterized the allegations against Allmon as “extremely disturbing.” He emphasized the deep psychological impact such threats can have on victims, stating, “
Being threatened with a loaded gun outside your home is one of the most frightening experiences anyone can endure and can have lasting consequences for the victim.
”
The incident has sparked significant concern within the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities. Elmhurst Deputy Police Chief Brett Kaczorowski commended the resident for their quick action in contacting authorities, which undoubtedly contributed to the swift arrest of Allmon.
During a hearing on Saturday, Judge Kishori Tank ordered Allmon to be detained at the county jail, where he awaits further proceedings. His next court appearance is set for October 20, 2023. As this case develops, residents are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior to local law enforcement immediately.
