UPDATE: Tomorrow, September 29, 2023, a vital tree-planting event will take place at Cascade Park in Belleville, aiming to enhance local biodiversity while providing a lasting legacy for the community. Volunteers and students from Park Dale Public School will gather to transform this urban green space, significantly improving access to nature and shade for local residents.

This initiative is a collaborative effort involving Quinte Conservation, Quinte Field Naturalists, Tree Canada, the City of Belleville, and the LCBO’s Spirit of Sustainability Initiative. Together, they will plant a diverse selection of native trees, fruit- and berry-producing shrubs, and wetland plants, all carefully chosen to thrive in the area.

The significance of this project extends beyond aesthetics; it represents a crucial step in restoring natural habitats and promoting biodiversity in a neighborhood where green spaces are scarce. With participation from local students, this event is not only an educational opportunity but also a chance to foster a sense of community pride and environmental stewardship.

Residents are encouraged to join and witness firsthand the positive impact this initiative will have on their neighborhood. The planting starts at 10 AM and will continue until the afternoon. Volunteers will receive guidance from experts to ensure the successful establishment of the new plants.

Why This Matters: As urban areas expand, access to green spaces becomes increasingly limited, affecting not just local wildlife but also community well-being. This event is a timely response to those challenges, demonstrating how communities can come together for a sustainable future.

Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this important project and how it will help shape the future of Belleville’s natural environment. Share this news to inspire others to take action in their communities!
