Walter Raupach, Beloved Community Leader, Dies at 89
BREAKING NEWS: Walter Raupach, a cherished figure in the Chilliwack community, has passed away at the age of 89. Raupach died on August 6, 2025, at Armstrong Pleasant Valley Long Term Care, leaving behind a legacy of love and community service.
Born in Mannheim, Germany on May 26, 1936, Raupach moved his family to Chilliwack, B.C. in 1974, where he founded Ivis Wood, a woodworking company he successfully operated until selling it in 1993. Afterward, he pursued a career as a Financial Advisor with Investor’s Group until his retirement in 2003.
Raupach is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Renate, and their sons, Christian and Heinz-Dieter, along with Heinz-Dieter’s wife, Bernadette, and their grandchildren Siobhan, Stefan, Torsten, and Mairead, as well as his great-grandson, Desmond. His family expresses profound grief over his loss and appreciation for the love he shared.
A passionate advocate for the arts, Raupach was deeply involved in classical music and opera. He played an integral role in the Fraser Valley Symphony and the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra, enriching the cultural fabric of the community. His commitment to service extended to being a dedicated member of the Chilliwack Rotary Club.
In memory of Walter Raupach, the family requests that donations be made to The Opera Kelowna Society, where granddaughter Siobhan is actively involved as an opera singer. This gesture honors his love for the arts and his family’s continuing legacy in the community.
