WestJet Employees Haul 30,000 kg Plane for Medical Fundraiser
UPDATE: In a remarkable show of community spirit, WestJet employees successfully hauled a 30,000-kilogram aircraft over a 100-metre distance in Calgary on October 25, 2023. This engaging event, dubbed the “Haul for Hope,” raised over $56,000 to support Hope Air, a charity dedicated to assisting those in need of essential medical travel.
The urgency of this initiative cannot be overstated. Hope Air provides free flights, accommodations, ground transportation, and meal vouchers to families and individuals facing financial barriers to accessing critical medical care. The funds raised will directly impact patients who rely on these vital services, making healthcare more accessible across Canada.
“We are proud to participate in Hope Air’s Haul for Hope alongside 260 fellow participants dedicated to ensuring that Canadians can access necessary medical care,” stated Alexis von Hoensbroech, CEO of WestJet. “Our ongoing partnership with Hope Air underscores the importance of air travel in Canada, especially as we service 41 domestic destinations.”
The event took place at the Calgary International Airport (YYC), where participants demonstrated incredible energy and teamwork. “We are thrilled to celebrate the amazing community effort at our final Haul for Hope in Calgary,” noted Mark Rubinstein, CEO of Hope Air. “Thanks to WestJet, our dedicated participants, and the YYC community, this initiative will have a lasting impact on the patients and families who depend on our services for life-saving medical care far from home.”
The Haul for Hope initiative not only highlights WestJet’s commitment to community support but also showcases the power of collective action in overcoming barriers to healthcare access. With the success of this event, organizers are hopeful about future collaborations and the continued support from the community.
As the fundraising efforts for Hope Air continue, the positive impact on those in need remains a top priority. WestJet and Hope Air have proven that distance and cost do not have to be obstacles to receiving necessary medical attention.
