Wheat Kings Dominate with Three Victories in U18 AAA Action
UPDATE: The Brandon Wheat Kings have just completed a stunning sweep, earning three decisive victories in the U18 AAA Hockey League this past week. Their latest triumph, a staggering 12-1 win over the Central Plains Capitals, solidifies their position as a team to watch.
On Sunday at J&G Homes Arena, the Wheat Kings showcased their offensive prowess with standout performances, including a hat trick from Crew Elder and Easten Turko contributing a goal and four assists. This commanding victory against the eighth-place Capitals marks their fourth win in five games, placing them second in the league standings.
In addition to Elder’s remarkable performance, other goal scorers included Ethan Stanley, Brayden Watt, and Kevin Knee. Goalie Cooper Dryden made 24 saves to secure the win, while Central Plains’ Riley Foster faced a barrage of shots, blocking 41 attempts.
Earlier in the week, the Wheat Kings defeated the Yellowhead Chiefs 6-1 on Wednesday, with Joe Balabanski scoring twice and Ethan Stanley contributing to the team’s strong lead. This victory was complemented by a previous 2-0 win over the Interlake Lightning on Saturday, showcasing the Wheat Kings’ defensive strength and strategic gameplay.
Next up for the Wheat Kings is a challenging series against the Winnipeg Wild, scheduled for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Hockey For All Centre.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Cougars also made headlines, securing five points in three games against the Pembina Valley Hawks. On Sunday, they clinched a 4-1 victory, with Eric Berger leading the charge. This impressive performance keeps the Cougars at the top of the league standings.
The Yellowhead Chiefs, recovering from their mid-week loss to Brandon, bounced back with two wins, including an emphatic 8-1 victory against the Kenora Thistles. The Chiefs now look to build momentum as they head into the next round of games.
