William Azaroff Confirmed as OneCity Vancouver’s Mayoral Candidate
BREAKING NEWS: William Azaroff has been officially confirmed as the OneCity Vancouver party’s mayoral candidate for the upcoming civic election on October 17, 2026. The announcement came late Wednesday night after a decisive vote from party members at an event held at the York Theatre, where Azaroff secured 1,324 votes, outpacing Amanda Burrows, who garnered 929 votes.
This development is significant as Vancouver gears up for a pivotal election, with Azaroff set to lead OneCity Vancouver into a competitive race against incumbent Ken Sim of ABC Vancouver, sitting city councillor Pete Fry of the Green Party, and others. Azaroff, currently the CEO of Brightside Community Homes, a non-profit housing provider, has unveiled ambitious campaign promises, including plans to build 4,000 affordable homes on city-owned land, enhance childcare facility accessibility, and implement new traffic technologies to alleviate congestion.
The party expressed its pride in both candidates during the announcement, stating, “We are so proud of the inspiring, motivating, and amazing campaigns run by Amanda and William.” This internal election is crucial as OneCity aims to strengthen its position ahead of the municipal election.
Azaroff’s victory marks a significant moment in the party’s strategy as they prepare to challenge the current administration. The campaign will likely focus on critical issues impacting Vancouver residents, including affordable housing and transportation improvements.
As the race intensifies, other parties, including the TEAM for a Livable Vancouver and the Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE), are expected to announce their own candidates soon. Observers are also keeping an eye on former mayor Kennedy Stewart, who has hinted at a potential run.
With the civic election less than a year away, the political landscape in Vancouver is rapidly evolving. Azaroff’s leadership signals a renewed commitment to addressing pressing community needs, setting the stage for a compelling election season.
Stay tuned for more updates as the election date approaches.
