Winnipeg Police Investigate 18th Homicide of 2025 After Man Dies
URGENT UPDATE: Winnipeg police are investigating the city’s 18th homicide of 2025 following the death of 25-year-old Melvin Catcheway from Lake St. Martin First Nation. Catcheway succumbed to injuries received earlier, dying in hospital on Friday after being found unresponsive on Langside Street.
Officers responded shortly before 1 a.m. when they discovered Catcheway injured and critically unresponsive. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have confirmed they are treating his death as a homicide, marking a troubling milestone for the city this year.
