Wizards Surge Past Raptors 138-117 as Kyshawn George Shines
UPDATE: The Washington Wizards achieved a stunning victory against the Toronto Raptors, defeating them 138-117 on December 8, 2023. Rookie sensation Kyshawn George led the charge with an impressive 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, marking a significant moment in the Wizards’ season as they halted a four-game home losing streak.
The Wizards displayed exceptional teamwork and offense, scoring their highest points of the season. Alongside George, CJ McCollum and Bilal Coulibaly each contributed 21 points, showcasing a well-rounded attack that overwhelmed the Raptors.
This match was crucial for the Wizards, who now hold the NBA’s worst record at 6-23. Despite their struggles, the team shot a remarkable 59.3 percent from the field, dominating the boards with a 46-33 rebound advantage.
The Raptors, who entered the game with the NBA’s fourth-best defensive rating, fell short as their roster was depleted by injuries. Notably, they played without starters RJ Barrett (knee sprain) and Jakob Poeltl (back strain). Toronto managed to cut an 11-point halftime deficit to just two points by the end of the third quarter, but could not withstand Washington’s late-game surge.
In a decisive fourth quarter, the Wizards outscored the Raptors 36-17. Justin Champagnie and Bub Carrington hit back-to-back three-pointers, extending the lead to ten with just over ten minutes left. The momentum continued to build with McCollum and Carrington hitting crucial shots, propelling Washington to a commanding 20-point lead.
The Raptors’ Brandon Ingram led his team with 29 points, while Immanuel Quickley added 25 points. However, their efforts were not enough to overcome the Wizards’ explosive performance.
Up next, the Raptors will begin a five-game homestand against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, while the Wizards look to maintain their momentum as they face the Memphis Grizzlies on the same day.
This match serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the NBA and highlights the potential of emerging talents like Kyshawn George. Fans will be eager to see how this victory impacts the Wizards moving forward in the season.
