Woman Charged with Second-Degree Murder After Stabbing Death

UPDATE: A woman has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing incident in Campbell River early this morning. Authorities report that a 30-year-old female victim succumbed to her injuries after suffering a life-threatening stab wound shortly before 2 a.m. on October 12, 2023.

Police were alerted to the scene in the 1300 block of Dogwood Street after receiving reports of a stabbing. RCMP officers conducting proactive patrols responded swiftly, arriving within one minute of the call. They quickly apprehended the 29-year-old suspect, Pauline Bruce, as she attempted to leave the area.

Despite immediate life-saving measures initiated by the first officer on scene, and subsequent efforts by Campbell River Fire and BC Ambulance, the victim could not be revived and tragically died from her injuries.

On Sunday evening, police confirmed that Bruce has been formally charged and remains in custody as the investigation continues. The Major Crime Unit of Campbell River RCMP, along with North Island RCMP Forensics and the ‘C’ Watch of Campbell River RCMP, are diligently working on the case.
