Woman Charged with Second-Degree Murder After Stabbing in Campbell River
UPDATE: A woman has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing in Campbell River early Saturday morning. Just before 2 a.m. on October 12, 2023, authorities responded to reports of a stabbing in the 1300 block of Dogwood Street, where a 30-year-old female victim suffered life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported a chaotic scene when Campbell River RCMP officers, conducting proactive patrols, arrived in under a minute. They quickly apprehended 29-year-old Pauline Bruce as she was leaving the area. Immediate life-saving measures were initiated for the victim, but tragically, despite the efforts of police, Campbell River Fire, and BC Ambulance, she succumbed to her injuries.
By Sunday evening, Bruce had been formally charged and remains in police custody. A thorough investigation is currently underway, led by the Major Crime Unit of Campbell River RCMP, alongside North Island RCMP Forensics. Officers are working to gather evidence and have already spoken to several witnesses, although some left the scene before providing information.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident but has not yet spoken to police to contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221. This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the urgent need for public safety measures and support for victims of violence.
