Youth Invited to Free Art Hangouts in Aldergrove This Fall
UPDATE: Young artists in Aldergrove are invited to unleash their creativity at a series of free art hangouts this fall, starting on October 10. Hosted by the Langley Arts Council, these engaging sessions will take place at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre on Fridays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., providing an exciting opportunity for youth aged 12 to 24 to connect, create, and collaborate.
The program will feature a relaxed environment where participants can draw, paint, and explore their artistic potential. Basic supplies will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own projects or start something entirely new. Notably, optional one-on-one instruction will be available, offering guidance for those who seek it while also allowing for independent exploration.
Leading the sessions is Kaitlyn Beugh, an interdisciplinary artist and herbalist known for her nature-inspired work. Beugh emphasizes that art should be accessible and enjoyable. “I hope they take away that art making doesn’t need to be hard,” she stated. “It can be just like a nice activity where we can get together and create in community.”
For many young people, the hangouts serve as a vital escape from the pressures of daily life. Beugh highlights the importance of hands-on creation, stating, “I see it helping them by getting them off screens and back into just creating with their hands.” This initiative aims to foster a sense of community and support among participants, creating a safe space for self-expression.
Beugh also encourages those who may not consider themselves traditionally artistic to participate. “I remind them that we’re all artists. Being creative is like being a baker or if you like to write or just like any sort of creation, and so visual art is no different,” she said. Her vision for the program is to help youth embrace their creativity and find joy in the artistic process.
As the world faces ongoing stressors, these art hangouts are more than just an opportunity to create—they are a chance for youth to come together, share experiences, and engage in a lighter, more fun activity. “These times are quite stressful, and it’s really nice to just be able to turn that off and do something completely different that’s a little bit lighter,” Beugh added.
Participants can register for the hangout events at langleyarts.ca. Don’t miss this chance to join a community of young creators and explore your artistic side this fall!
