Airlines Expand US-Australia Flights with 910 Services This Month

Transpacific travel is evolving, with airlines significantly increasing direct services between the United States and Australia. For October 2025, there are a total of 910 flights scheduled from various US cities to Australian destinations, highlighting a robust market for transpacific travel beyond the more commonly discussed routes to Asia. This surge in flights reflects growing demand and the competitive nature of the airline industry in this sector.
Leading Aircraft and Routes
According to Cirium, an aviation analytics company, the most frequently used aircraft on US to Australia flights this month is the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with 442 flights utilizing its various models. Other aircraft in service include the Boeing 777 (186 flights), Airbus A380 (114 flights), Airbus A330 (105 flights), and Airbus A350 (63 flights).
The major US airlines are making a strong showing on these routes. American Airlines operates a non-stop service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Sydney (SYD) using the Boeing 777-300ER, and is set to launch new flights from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Brisbane (BNE) later this month with the 787-8.
United Airlines boasts a broad range of Australian routes, flying daily from San Francisco (SFO) to Melbourne (MEL), Brisbane, and Sydney. Additionally, United operates daily flights from Los Angeles to Sydney, with less frequent services to Melbourne and Houston (IAH) to Sydney, primarily using the Boeing 777 and 787.
Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines provides daily service from Los Angeles to Sydney with the Airbus A350-900 and plans to initiate flights from LAX to Brisbane at the end of this month. A spokesperson for Delta commented, “This marks our most extensive schedule to the South Pacific to date, and as we build our presence in the region, we know our customers will enjoy the enhanced experience consistently provided by Delta.”
Australian Carriers and Their Offerings
On the Australian side, Qantas plays a pivotal role in connecting the US with Australia. The airline operates a daily flight from Los Angeles to Sydney using the A380, as well as services from DFW to Sydney and LAX to Melbourne, albeit at lower frequencies. Qantas also utilizes the Boeing 787-9 on these routes, including a service from DFW to Melbourne.
In addition to these routes, Qantas offers flights from Honolulu (HNL) to both Melbourne and Sydney with the Airbus A330 and the 787, while San Francisco benefits from direct flights to Sydney using the Dreamliner. Notably, travelers from New York JFK can access Sydney via one-stop flights operated by the Boeing 787-9, which connect through Auckland.
The low-cost carrier Jetstar, which is part of the Qantas Group, has a limited presence in the US market. Data indicates that Jetstar’s 787-8s are scheduled to operate 11 flights from Honolulu to Sydney this month, with some flights continuing to Melbourne.
In terms of other carriers, Hawaiian Airlines also utilizes the Airbus A330 for transpacific services. The airline will offer non-stop flights five times a week between Honolulu and Sydney, covering a distance of approximately 5,066 miles (6,543.6 km). Hawaiian’s A330-200 aircraft feature a total of 278 seats, including 18 business class flatbeds and 260 economy class seats, catering to a variety of passenger needs.
As airlines continue to expand their offerings on these vital routes, travelers can expect increased competition, enhanced services, and a wider range of options when flying between the US and Australia. This expansion reflects not only a response to passenger demand but also a commitment to providing a seamless travel experience across the Pacific.
