American Airlines has launched a new status match program, allowing travelers to elevate their loyalty status from other airlines. This initiative aims to enhance the airline’s competitiveness in the business travel market. Passengers who hold AAdvantage Gold or AAdvantage Platinum equivalent status with select carriers can now match to a higher tier within the AAdvantage loyalty program. The offer is available until October 31, 2025.

Details of the Status Match Program

The status match applies to nine major airlines, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Air Canada, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, and Virgin Atlantic. For example, a traveler with Delta SkyMiles Silver Medallion status will be matched to AAdvantage Platinum, while Delta Gold Medallion members will be upgraded to AAdvantage Platinum Pro.

To take advantage of this offer, passengers must present proof of their current status with a qualifying airline. After verification via email, they will receive confirmation and details of their new AAdvantage status. The matched status is valid for four months, with the potential for extension by earning Loyalty Points. Accumulating a set number of Loyalty Points during this period can extend their status through March 31, 2027.

Additional Benefits for Elite Members

Passengers with Platinum Pro or Executive Platinum equivalent status will enjoy further advantages. American Airlines will match their existing status and provide complimentary lounge passes. For instance, members of United MileagePlus Premier Platinum will not only match to the equivalent AAdvantage tier but will also receive two Flagship Lounge Single Visit Passes. Those with United MileagePlus Premier 1K status will gain access to four lounge passes.

The AAdvantage program is designed to reward frequent flyers with points, known as Loyalty Points, which can be earned through flying, using partner airlines, or making purchases with associated partners. These points can be redeemed for flights, upgrades, and various travel-related benefits.

The AAdvantage tiers include several levels, starting with AAdvantage Gold, which provides basic perks like priority boarding and bonus miles. Higher tiers, such as AAdvantage Platinum, offer enhanced benefits, including increased bonus miles and preferred seating. The AAdvantage Platinum Pro tier provides free upgrades on domestic flights and additional priority services, while the highest tier, AAdvantage Executive Platinum, offers maximum rewards, including priority services and lounge access.

To achieve AAdvantage elite status, members must accumulate a specific number of miles or Loyalty Points. Notably, one eligible AAdvantage mile equals one Loyalty Point. The quickest way to earn these points is through flying. The requirements for elite status are as follows: AAdvantage Gold requires 40,000 miles, AAdvantage Platinum requires 75,000 miles, Platinum Pro necessitates 125,000 miles, and the top-tier Executive Platinum requires 200,000 miles.

This new status match program reflects American Airlines’ proactive approach to attract and retain business travelers, enhancing their travel experience with added benefits and recognition.
