The Boeing 767 continues to take on significant long-haul routes, with its longest flights scheduled for October 2025. Despite a decline in passenger demand, the aircraft remains operationally efficient, supported by ongoing interest from cargo airlines. This month, United Airlines operates the longest scheduled routes for the Boeing 767 family, showcasing the aircraft’s enduring utility.

United Airlines Leads with Extended Routes

Current scheduling data from aviation analytics firm Cirium reveals that United Airlines is utilizing the Boeing 767-300ER on two routes exceeding 5,000 miles. Departing from its hub in Houston (IAH), United connects to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) and Rio de Janeiro Galeão International Airport (GIG). These routes measure approximately 5,013 miles (8,068 kilometers) and 5,016 miles (8,072.5 kilometers) respectively, with block times around 10.5 hours.

Despite the aircraft’s older design, Boeing maintains that it is seeing robust demand for the 767. The company noted, “Boeing continues to see strong market demand for 767 airplanes, which offer outstanding operational efficiency and payload configuration.”

US Airlines Dominate Long-Distance Operations

Alongside United Airlines, other major US carriers are also operating lengthy routes with the 767. Delta Air Lines, a member of the SkyTeam alliance, flies its own variant of the Boeing 767 on routes approaching 5,000 miles. The airline operates from New York (JFK) to Honolulu (HNL), covering a distance of 4,983 miles (8,019 kilometers). This route utilizes the Boeing 767-300ER, which has a maximum range of 6,880 miles (11,070 kilometers).

In addition, United Airlines is preparing to launch its 4,956-mile (7,976 kilometers) route from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Athens (ATH). Currently, this route is serviced by a smaller variant, the 767-300ER, which has a configuration of 46 Polaris business class seats, 22 Premium Plus recliners, and 99 economy seats. The larger 767-400ER will take over daily operations once the IATA Winter Schedule begins.

International Operators Maintain Long Routes

While US airlines dominate the longest routes for the Boeing 767, several international operators are also maintaining long-haul services. Austrian Airlines operates the 767-300ER on a 4,464-mile (7,184 kilometers) route from Vienna (VIE) to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The airline also offers lower-frequency services to Boston (BOS) and Montreal (YUL)LATAM Airlines Peru connects Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), covering 4,167 miles (6,706 kilometers). This service is operated by the Boeing 767-300ER, configured with 19 business and 211 economy class seats.

Lastly, Brazilian carrier Azul utilizes 767 flights operated by the Portuguese charter company EuroAtlantic Airways. This month, these aircraft will operate 22 flights weekly between Belo Horizonte (CNF) and Orlando International Airport (MCO), facilitating travel between Brazil and the United States.

The Boeing 767, while facing challenges from newer aircraft, continues to perform vital long-haul operations across the globe. Its versatility and operational efficiency ensure it remains a significant player in the aviation industry, even more than four decades after its first flight.
