Calgary Police Charge 17 Individuals in Series of Break-Ins

Police in Calgary have charged a total of 17 individuals, including nine youths, in connection with a series of nighttime break and enters that occurred over the past few months. The arrests follow an extensive investigation into criminal activities that reportedly targeted homeowners in the area.
The Calgary Police Service announced on Tuesday that the group comprises eight adults, aged between 18 and 43, and nine boys, aged 15 to 17. Charges against them include possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and failure to comply with court orders. Additionally, the adults face further charges such as flight from police and possession of cocaine.
More than 100 charges have been filed related to 45 break-and-enters dating back to August 2024, with the majority of incidents occurring in May and June of this year. According to the police, the individuals involved were known to each other and collaborated in their efforts to target homes throughout Calgary.
Investigation Details
In June, the Calgary Police Service issued warnings to residents about the rising number of break-ins happening while they slept. A multi-agency investigation culminated in the execution of search warrants at three homes in Calgary’s southeast, which played a critical role in apprehending the suspects.
“This was a large and complex investigation that required co-ordination across several areas of our Service,” said Staff Sgt. Rob MacKenzie of the District 4 General Investigations Unit. “This is a great example of impactful police work and investigative techniques, as we were able to arrest and charge 17 individuals responsible for victimizing Calgarians.”
Of the nine youths charged, six face allegations of failing to comply with existing court orders. Notably, five of the eight adults involved are under 24 years old. The youths will be engaged through the Serious Habitual Offender Program (SHOP), which aims to reduce reoffending rates among individuals aged 12 to 24.
The authorities have urged anyone with information related to these incidents to contact the police at 403-266-1234 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via their website or P3 Tips app.
With these developments, the Calgary Police Service emphasizes its commitment to community safety and the ongoing battle against property crime. As investigations continue, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
