The transatlantic aviation market continues to evolve, with airlines expanding their long-haul services between the United States and Europe. According to data from Cirium, the longest flights planned for 2025 showcase significant growth, opening new connections and opportunities for travelers.

The Longest Routes

The longest flight scheduled between the US and Europe in 2025 is operated by Norse Atlantic, covering a distance of 6,928 miles (11,149 km) from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Athens International Airport (ATH). This route, which launched in June 2025, will see a total of 68 flights, offering 22,984 seats and 159,233,152 available seat miles (ASMs). It marks the first nonstop connection from the US West Coast to Athens, enhancing Norse’s strategy to strengthen transatlantic connectivity.

Following closely is the Turkish Airlines route from LAX to Istanbul Airport (IST), covering 6,852 miles (11,027 km). This service is expected to operate 760 flights, providing 254,368 seats and a remarkable 1,742,929,536 ASMs. The connection serves not only local demand but also facilitates access to a variety of destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, positioning Turkish Airlines competitively against Gulf carriers.

Another Turkish Airlines route, from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to IST, spans 6,705 miles (10,790 km) and will feature 575 flights, providing 190,025 seats. This route connects San Francisco to Turkey, offering travelers a direct link that was previously available only through other European hubs.

Key Competitors

Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) also features prominently on the list with a Turkish Airlines service to IST, covering 6,371 miles (10,235 km). This route will include 506 flights and 159,346 seats, appealing to business travelers from Houston’s prominent energy and medical sectors. The direct connection enhances Turkish Airlines’ extensive network across Europe and beyond.

The Los Angeles to Rome route, operated by ITA Airways, is another notable entry. This service will offer 82,832 seats over 268 flights, covering 6,354 miles (10,225 km). Norse Atlantic competes on this route, providing further options for travelers seeking direct access to Italy after years of inconsistent service.

Completing the list are two more routes connecting Dallas and San Francisco to IST and FCO, respectively. The Dallas route spans 6,275 miles (10,098 km) and will include 485 flights, providing 147,313 seats. The San Francisco to Rome route measures 6,264 miles (10,080 km) and will see 201 flights, enhancing the Bay Area’s direct links to Italy while supporting both airlines’ competitive positions.

These long-haul routes reflect a broader trend in the aviation industry, where airlines are leveraging newer aircraft and efficient operations to expand their global reach. As travel demand continues to rebound, these connections promise to enhance the transatlantic experience for passengers seeking convenience and direct access to key destinations.
