Eight Charged with 70 Offences Following Peel Region Traffic Stops

Eight individuals have been charged with a total of 70 offences, primarily related to firearms, following the recovery of loaded weapons during traffic stops in Peel Region, Ontario, on September 13, 2023. The operation was conducted by officers from the Peel Regional Police’s Strategic and Tactical Enforcement Police (STEP) unit, who were carrying out proactive patrols in the early hours of the morning.

The incidents occurred around 03:00 when police initiated simultaneous traffic stops on two vehicles believed to be linked. According to a news release from the Peel Regional Police, upon approaching the first vehicle, officers noticed several open alcoholic beverage containers visible to them. This observation prompted a search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery and seizure of a loaded handgun.

In the second vehicle, officers found cannabis that was easily accessible to the front passenger, which is a violation of the Cannabis Control Act. A subsequent search of this vehicle resulted in the seizure of two additional loaded handguns.

The individuals charged in connection with these incidents include:

– **Tiana Marie Carmond Desrochers**, 23, from Timmins
– **Kevin Trudel**, 35, from Timmins
– **Deven Che**, 24, from Toronto
– **Sabrina Johnson**, 30, from Timmins
– **James Jeffels**, 31, from Fauquier
– **Matthew Digiandomenico-Williams**, 23, from Toronto
– **Junior Walker**, 24, from North York
– **Blessed Davies**, 24, with no fixed address

All eight suspects have been detained and are awaiting bail hearings.
