GO Train Service Disruption Affects Commuters Until Tuesday
Commuters traveling between Oakville and Union Station in Toronto face disruptions due to postponed track work. On Monday, October 23, 2023, there will be no GO Transit train service on the Lakeshore West line after construction originally scheduled for the weekend was delayed because of the Toronto Blue Jays’ playoff games. With the Blue Jays eliminated from contention, the necessary work will proceed all day Monday, causing significant inconvenience for travellers.
Trains on the Lakeshore West line will operate on a limited schedule, running every 30 minutes between Niagara Falls and Oakville GO Station. However, there will be no service at Port Credit, Long Branch, or west of Mimico GO Station, as confirmed by Metrolinx in a media release.
For those needing to reach Union Station, GO buses will be available between Oakville and Clarkson GO Station, as well as Erindale or Bramalea GO Stations. These bus routes provide connections to eastbound train services on the Milton and Kitchener lines, facilitating access to Union Station. To accommodate the increased demand, two additional trips have been added to the Milton line in both directions, although this adjustment has resulted in departures occurring five minutes earlier than usual.
Special train services will run on a 30-minute schedule between Mimico GO Station and Union Station. Riders should take note that service is expected to resume on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, with two early-morning inbound trains departing from Appleby and Aldershot GO Stations. Regular service is anticipated to return at 5:52 a.m. on Tuesday.
Metrolinx advises commuters to check schedules online before travelling, as departure times may vary. Connections for GO buses may also be subject to modifications, leading to longer wait times than normal.
In a statement, Metrolinx expressed appreciation for the understanding and patience of its customers during this disruption. The agency aims to minimize inconvenience and ensure that all travellers can reach their destinations as smoothly as possible.
