JetBlue Mint Emerges as Top Contender in US Business Class Rankings
JetBlue Airways’ business class offering, known as Mint, has gained recognition as one of the best in the United States. The airline, which primarily operates narrowbody aircraft, has successfully positioned itself in a competitive market dominated by larger carriers, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. As of 2025, the J.D. Power North America Airline Satisfaction Study rated JetBlue’s Mint class as the highest in the region, solidifying its reputation in the industry.
Overview of JetBlue Mint Business Class
Mint was first introduced in 2013 for flights from New York’s JFK Airport to Los Angeles and San Francisco. JetBlue later expanded this service to various domestic routes, the Caribbean, and select European destinations. The airline’s Mint cabins feature lie-flat seats, setting them apart from conventional domestic first-class offerings. Currently, JetBlue operates 35 Airbus A321-200s with the original Mint seats, which are based on the popular Thompson Vantage design.
In 2021, JetBlue announced a second generation of Mint seats, based on the Thompson VantageSOLO, which debuted on the Airbus A321neo. There are currently 10 A321neos equipped with these new “Mint Suites,” along with 11 Airbus A321LRs that feature the same upgraded seating.
Unique Features of JetBlue Mint
The original Mint seats, although over a decade old, maintain competitive features. They include higher privacy partitions compared to other Thompson Vantage installations. A significant highlight in the Mint cabin is the four “throne” seats, designed with direct aisle access and no seatmate, offering enhanced privacy through sliding doors. JetBlue was the first airline to incorporate such privacy doors in its business class.
In comparison, legacy carriers like Delta and United utilize older versions of the Thompson Vantage, which do not offer the same level of privacy or single-seat options. American Airlines also provides a higher-priced product that lacks the privacy doors available in JetBlue’s Mint.
Mint’s second-generation seating offers additional benefits, including increased storage and improved visibility out of the windows. This innovative seating arrangement positions JetBlue Mint as a strong competitor even against widebody business class products.
Mint’s Competitive Edge Across the Atlantic
JetBlue has expanded its Mint service to transatlantic routes, including flights to London, Paris, and Amsterdam, using its Airbus A321LR aircraft. These routes represent long-haul international travel, with JetBlue being unique in operating narrowbody aircraft on several of these routes. The Mint product remains competitive against widebody options, offering direct aisle access, substantial privacy, and a long bed.
As JetBlue continues to enhance its Mint service, it also focuses on the overall customer experience. The airline provides complimentary Wi-Fi, a robust in-flight entertainment selection, and a catering service that has garnered positive reviews. JetBlue’s Mint is often praised for its diverse menu options, which include fresh meals and a choice of premium beverages.
Despite facing financial challenges in recent times, JetBlue has managed to maintain the quality of its Mint product. While adjustments have been made to staffing on some transatlantic flights, the airline continues to deliver a strong business class experience, characterized by friendly and attentive service.
In conclusion, JetBlue Mint stands out in the US business class market, competing effectively against established carriers. With its innovative seating, commitment to customer service, and strategic international expansion, JetBlue has positioned itself as a formidable player in the airline industry.
