Kate Honors Swiatek at Wimbledon Final, Consoles Anisimova

Kate, Princess of Wales, presented the winner’s trophy to Iga Swiatek after her impressive victory in the women’s Wimbledon final on March 15, 2024. Swiatek triumphed over Amanda Anisimova with a decisive score of 6-0, 6-0, securing her first Wimbledon title.
As patron of the All England Club, Kate has a long-standing relationship with the tournament, regularly attending both the men’s and women’s finals. Notably, she was absent from last year’s women’s final due to recovery from cancer. Upon her return to Centre Court, she received a warm standing ovation from the crowd as she took her place in the Royal Box just before the match commenced.
After the match concluded, Princess Kate participated in the trophy presentation ceremony. She first presented the runner-up trophy to Anisimova, who was visibly emotional following the overwhelming defeat. The princess then awarded Swiatek the prestigious Venus Rosewater Dish, celebrating her remarkable achievement.
Anisimova expressed gratitude for Kate’s presence, reflecting on the emotional support she received. “I wasn’t sure if she was going to come out today,” Anisimova stated. “It was just really nice to see her. She definitely had a few things to say that were making me emotional again. But yeah, she was really kind. She told me to keep my head high.”
Following the ceremony, Princess Kate and Swiatek shared a private conversation inside the tournament’s main stadium. Swiatek described the moment as overwhelming, admitting, “I don’t remember what she said really, because I was too overwhelmed. I wanted to behave well.”
Last year, Kate handed the trophy to Carlos Alcaraz after his victory against Novak Djokovic in the men’s final, marking one of her first public appearances since announcing her cancer diagnosis. Since completing chemotherapy last fall, she has gradually resumed her public duties. This week, she welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron during his state visit to the UK.
As the tournament continues, Alcaraz is set to face Jannik Sinner in the men’s final on March 16, 2024. With a rejuvenated presence at Wimbledon, Kate’s involvement highlights the event’s significance and the spirit of sportsmanship it embodies.
