Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall to Relocate by Early 2027
Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall, a cherished venue for country music enthusiasts in Calgary, will relocate to a new space along McLeod Trail in early 2027. The decision comes as the current venue, which has served the community since 1972, has aged significantly. Although the exact location of the new venue has not been disclosed, the restaurant’s management has signed a lease for a larger facility nearby.
Wendy Daniel, the director of marketing for Ranchman’s, expressed excitement about the transition. “2026 will be a milestone year for us,” she stated. Plans are underway for a full calendar of concerts, community celebrations, and special events to honor the venue’s legacy in Calgary. Daniel emphasized the intention to celebrate the current location before the move, ensuring the stage remains active and the dance floor lively throughout the year.
Future Plans for the Current Venue
Once Ranchman’s relocates, the existing space will be redeveloped into a mixed-use project by the Deveraux Group of Companies and Lansdowne Equity Ventures. The redevelopment aims to incorporate residential units above commercial spaces, creating a vibrant community atmosphere.
Sameer Remtulla, vice-president of marketing at Deveraux, highlighted the thoughtful planning involved in the relocation process. “We have focused on spending the better part of over a year to even think through how to effectively relocate Ranchman’s to maintain the character of the space,” Remtulla conveyed in an interview with Postmedia.
The redevelopment plans include an open-air plaza at ground level, intended to enhance pedestrian accessibility and attract visitors. Above the commercial areas, new residential units will be developed, alongside a private amenity center featuring an outdoor pool, fitness facility, co-working spaces, and a resident lounge.
Looking Ahead
Ranchman’s is scheduled to continue operations at its current location until the end of 2026. Following the relocation, the redevelopment project is set to break ground in the spring of 2027. Both the management of Ranchman’s and the developers are optimistic that the new venue will preserve the spirit of the original location while expanding its offerings to the community.
As Ranchman’s prepares for this significant transition, it remains committed to celebrating its history and contributions to Calgary’s cultural landscape.
