Toronto Humane Society Hosts Annual Paws in the Park Event
The Toronto Humane Society (THS) is set to host its largest annual event, Paws in the Park, on Saturday, August 18, 2023, at its facility located at 11 River St. in eastern Toronto. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and promises a variety of activities for both pets and their owners.
Celebrating Pets and Community Engagement
Paws in the Park is a free celebration designed to strengthen the bond between humans and animals. Attendees can enjoy a range of activities, including a dog-friendly beer garden, a children’s zone, local food vendors, and interactive sessions with experts. An agility course will be available for pets, along with opportunities for caricatures, pet portraits, and the popular Puppy Glambot.
According to THS Chief Operating Officer Phil Nichols, “Paws in the Park is an incredible celebration of the human-animal bond. It’s a joyful way for the community to come together while making a real difference for animals in need and the families who love them.” This sentiment underscores the event’s mission to promote awareness and support for animal welfare.
Fundraising for Community Support Programs
This event serves as THS’s primary fundraising initiative of the year, with proceeds directed towards essential programs and services such as the Pet Food Bank, community days, an urgent care program, and the Pet Parent Support Network. In an effort to boost fundraising, the Pledge for Paws campaign has been launched, aiming to raise $30,000 for community support initiatives. Until the event date, individuals can contribute, with Amazon and Petline Insurance matching donations up to $10,000.
Thanks to generous donations, 15 dogs and 22 kittens are being transported from an overcrowded shelter to THS, providing these animals with a chance for a new life. Adoption conversations will occur on-site during the event, conducted on a first-come, first-served basis, encouraging prospective pet owners to arrive early.
