Toronto Police Officer Discharges Firearm After Stabbing Incident
A male suspect was taken to a hospital following a police shooting in Toronto’s Jane-Finch neighbourhood on September 25, 2023. The incident occurred after officers responded to reports of a stabbing at approximately 15:26 in the vicinity of Jane Street and Shoreham Drive. Upon arriving at the scene, police found two individuals suffering from stab wounds; one was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.
According to Toronto Police, an officer discharged their firearm at a male suspect who was allegedly armed with an edged weapon. This suspect was also taken to a hospital for injuries sustained during the confrontation. Fortunately, no officers were hospitalized, although two sustained minor injuries during the event. The Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has been notified, as is standard protocol for incidents involving police firearms.
Police Seek Suspects in Separate Assault Incident
In a separate incident in North York, Toronto Police are searching for two suspects following a brutal attack on a pedestrian that resulted in life-threatening injuries. This assault occurred on September 24, shortly before 22:00 in the area of De Marco Boulevard and Lawrence Avenue.
Police reported that the victim was walking westbound along Lawrence Avenue when a dark-coloured, four-door sedan stopped in front of them. The suspects, who had activated the vehicle’s hazard lights, exited the car and confronted the victim, leading to an assault before fleeing the scene in the same vehicle. The suspects were last seen heading westbound on Lawrence Avenue. The victim was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries.
Authorities describe the suspects as white males wearing black baseball caps at the time of the incident. Toronto Police are urging anyone who may have been in the area between 21:15 and 22:15 to come forward with any video or dashcam footage. In an unrelated case, a 66-year-old dentist from Scarborough, Muthuckumaru Illango, has been charged with sexual assault following an incident that allegedly occurred on October 18, 2023. According to Toronto Police, a 21-year-old woman reported being assaulted during a dental treatment. The accused turned himself in to the authorities on December 5. Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are inviting anyone with information to contact police.
The recent series of violent incidents has raised concerns within the community, prompting police to enhance their outreach and support efforts. As investigations continue, authorities emphasize the importance of public assistance in resolving these cases and ensuring community safety.
