Toronto’s Santa Claus Parade Shines in 121st Year After 2024 Struggles
The annual Original Santa Claus Parade made a vibrant return to the streets of Toronto on November 23, 2025, marking its 121st year. After facing significant financial challenges in 2024, which prompted organizers to launch a fundraising campaign, the parade delighted thousands of attendees who braved the chilly weather to witness the festive spectacle.
Participants bundled up in winter attire lined the downtown streets, creating a cheerful atmosphere. Before the parade commenced, many donned Santa hats and running shoes for the Holly Jolly Fun Run, a 5-kilometre event that serves as a fundraiser for the parade. This community spirit set a joyful tone for the day ahead.
Starting at Christie Pits, the parade route traversed Bloor St. W., passing iconic landmarks like the Royal Ontario Museum before winding through Hoskin Ave. and around Queen’s Park. The procession continued down University Ave. and concluded at the historic St. Lawrence Market. The combination of festive floats, lively performances, and enthusiastic crowds made for a memorable event.
Entertainment and Holiday Cheer
The parade showcased over two dozen floats and featured thousands of participants, including marching bands, dancers, clowns, and dignitaries. The energy was palpable as performers entertained the crowd, building anticipation for the arrival of the guest of honor.
After about an hour of excitement, Santa Claus made his entrance aboard a float accompanied by his sled and reindeer. He waved at children and parents alike, spreading holiday cheer and goodwill. “Oh, look at all the smiling faces,” Santa exclaimed to a group of delighted children. “I love you all. Remember to be kind!” His appearance left many young attendees beaming with hope for Christmas Day.
Following the parade, Toronto Fire Services shared their joy on social media, stating, “We enjoyed another fantastic @TOSantaParade this afternoon – a joyous occasion with Santa and friends. We wish all a safe and joyous holiday season.”
Fundraising Efforts for Future Parades
The successful return of the Original Santa Claus Parade comes after a financially challenging year in 2024. Organizers had to appeal for public donations to ensure the event’s continuation. They launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $250,000, and as of now, it has gathered over $143,000, with donations still being accepted. Contributions can also be made through CanadaHelps, allowing community members to support this cherished holiday tradition.
The parade not only signifies the start of the festive season but also highlights the importance of community support in preserving local traditions. As Toronto prepares for the holidays, the success of this year’s celebration offers hope and excitement for future events.
