United Airlines Expands Network with 24 New Destinations in 2025
United Airlines has announced the addition of 24 new and returning destinations to its route map for 2025. This expansion, which includes nine domestic and 15 international cities, marks a significant step in the airline’s growth strategy compared to its offerings in 2024.
In a notable shift, five cities that were part of United’s 2024 routes will not see service in 2025. These locations include Amman, Fukuoka, Moab, Presque Isle, and Vernal. In some cases, other airlines have stepped in to fill the gap. For instance, Royal Jordanian has begun flights to Washington Dulles just six months after United discontinued its service to the capital of Jordan.
International Additions Enhance Global Reach
Among the 15 international additions, several destinations stand out. According to data from Cirium Diio, United Airlines is reintroducing services to Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Regina, which it had previously served. On October 24, United launched its inaugural flight from Los Angeles to Bangkok, operating via Hong Kong after an 11-year hiatus. The following day, flights resumed to Ho Chi Minh City, marking a return after nine years.
New destinations include Adelaide, which will receive its first North American flight in early December, and Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. United’s service to Nuuk began on June 14, making it the first US airline to operate flights there. Utilizing the Boeing 737 MAX 8, the airline offered summer seasonal service twice a week until September 23. This marked a rare occurrence, as it was only the second time in 18 years that flights connected the US and Greenland.
Despite the novelty of the Greenland route, United Airlines faced challenges in filling capacity. The US Department of Transportation reported that the airline achieved only a 51% load factor in Nuuk, with September seeing a particularly low occupancy rate of 41%. While incentives were in place to attract travelers, they only partially mitigated the challenge of low demand.
Domestic Expansion with New Services
On the domestic front, United Express has relaunched services to six cities: Butte, Columbia, Farmington, Pierre, Rhinelander, and Watertown. The most recent market to welcome United was Butte, which last saw flights in 2022. Service resumed in January 2025, connecting Butte to Denver, located 502 nautical miles (930 km) away, with daily flights utilizing SkyWest CRJ200 aircraft.
New connections also include Lafayette/Purdue University in Indiana, Pelliston in Michigan, and Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan. SkyWest CRJ200s began operating from Chicago O’Hare to Lafayette in August 2025, coinciding with the opening of the airport’s new terminal, the Amelia Earhart Terminal. This new service replaced Southern Airways Express, which previously operated with Cessna Grand Caravans from Lafayette’s former terminal.
As United Airlines continues to expand its network, the new routes aim to enhance connectivity and offer travelers more options for both domestic and international travel, reinforcing the airline’s position in the competitive aviation market.
