Halifax Launches ‘From Pond to Podium’ Light Show for Curling
UPDATE: Halifax is set to unveil an exciting new light projection show titled “From Pond to Podium,” celebrating the city’s rich curling heritage. This captivating display will run from November 22 to 30, 2025, coinciding with the highly anticipated 2025 Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials taking place downtown.
The two-and-a-half-minute show will illuminate the façade of the former Halifax Memorial Library at Grafton Park, starting at dusk and continuing until 11 p.m. each night. Spectators will experience a visually stunning narrative that honors curling’s origins and pays tribute to local icons who have significantly contributed to the sport’s popularity.
“This has been a two-year journey, getting to this moment,” said Robert Belliveau, vice chair of the 2025 Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials. “To know it’s finally here and that we can hit an even bigger audience with a beautiful light projection show dedicated to a sport so many of us hold dear, is the icing on the cake.”
The light projection is part of a broader initiative by the Downtown Halifax Business Commission (DHBC), known as Delightful Downtown, which presents seasonal and cultural shows to enhance community engagement. The shows, created by multimedia artist Nick Iwaskow of Wasko AV, are designed to transform spaces into vibrant destinations.
“Our goal with the light shows, as with all of our placemaking projects, is to turn a space into a place,” said Jonathan Goldson, DHBC’s Placemaking Manager. “These light projections aim to turn an otherwise plain building into entertainment, spreading joy during the darkest months of the year.”
The “From Pond to Podium” show not only serves as entertainment but also carries an educational component, showcasing the impactful figures and events that have shaped Halifax’s curling scene. As the city gears up for the Trials, this unique light show promises to enhance the festive atmosphere, drawing both locals and visitors to experience the magic of curling history.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to attend this illuminating event, which will shine a light on Halifax’s connection to curling and foster a deeper appreciation for the sport. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to celebrate curling in style!
